Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic digestive disorder that affects the large intestine. The symptoms of IBS can vary widely from person to person, but some of the most common signs and symptoms include:

  1. Abdominal pain or discomfort: This can range from mild to severe and may be felt in different areas of the abdomen.

  2. Changes in bowel habits: This can include diarrhea, constipation, or both. Some people with IBS may also experience alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation.

  3. Bloating and gas: These symptoms may be accompanied by a feeling of fullness or pressure in the abdomen.

  4. Mucus in the stool: Some people with IBS may notice mucus in their stool, which can be a sign of inflammation in the colon.

  5. Nausea and vomiting: Some people with IBS may experience these symptoms, particularly if they have severe abdominal pain.

  6. Fatigue: Many people with IBS report feeling tired or run down, which may be related to the stress of living with a chronic condition.

  7. Anxiety and depression: IBS can be a source of significant stress and anxiety, which can in turn exacerbate symptoms.

Chiropractic Care & IBS

  1. Neurology-based Adjustment: The muscles and cells of the digestive tract are 100% controlled by the central nervous system, we can analyze if there is tension or irritation on the nerve roots feeding that specific area of the spine. When the irritation on a nerve root is removed, the gut and digestive tract can digest, breakdown, and absorb food & water properly, thus limiting or completely reversing the common symptoms of IBS.

  2. Musculoskeletal Problems: If an IBS patient has a misaligned spine or pelvis, it may be putting pressure on their digestive organs and exacerbating their symptoms. In this case, chiropractic adjustments may help to realign the spine or pelvis and relieve the pressure on the digestive organs, reducing IBS symptoms.

  3. Reduce Stress: and anxiety, which are known triggers for IBS symptoms. Chiropractic adjustments can help to release tension in the body and promote relaxation, which may help to reduce stress and anxiety levels.
